Dewey Dash 5K Run/Walk for All Ages
Saturday, June 1st at 9 a.m.
Join us for our inaugural event to officially kick off summer! The race is open to all ages and ability levels, so bring the whole family. All proceeds will benefit the library. The race will begin and end at the Main Branch, located at 110 S. Jefferson St. in Martinsville. Awards will be given to the top male and female overall runner and walker and top male and female in each age group (14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+).
The early registration cost (until Friday, May 17th) is $18 per participant. Those registering early will also receive a free t-shirt on race day! After May 17th, the entry fee will be $20, a the number of t-shirts will be limited. You can register online by visiting the Mag7 website. We are excited to offer you a new service - Freegal! What is Freegal? Freegal is a downloadable music service from the Morgan County Public Library and all you need is your library card number. There is no software to download, there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions and the songs are yours to keep with no expiration. Access to Freegal is limited to Morgan County Public Library patrons in good standing.
There are thousands of artists, tens of thousands of albums, and millions of songs available to you. The Freegal Music website has hundreds of genres of music from pop to punk, rock to rap, classical to Christian and everything in between. The content is based upon agreements with over 10,000 music labels, including the labels of Sony Music Entertainment.
You are allowed to download three songs per week. To get started, click here, or on the Freegal logo at the top of this page, enter your library card number and start browsing. Or, if you have an Apple or Android mobile device, you can download the free app. Just got to the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace, a.k.a. Google Play. Search for Freegal Music.
Learn Even More Languages with Mango Languages!
Mango Languages now offers forty-five foreign languages for you to learn as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for speakers of 15 different native languages, thanks to the Community Foundation of Morgan County and the Morgan County Coalition for Literacy. From Arabic to Ukrainian and everything in between, including Hawaiian and Pirate, Mango is your window to the world's languages.
You'll need a computer (your own at home or one of ours) that has Flash Player installed. Or, there's a mobile app, so you can take your Mango to go! Online Learning with Vincennes University
The Morgan County Public Library in Martinsville is now a partner with Vincennes University's Learning Unlimited program. The Learning Unlimited program will focus on providing college credit and job-ready training programs centered at public libraries. Through Learning Unlimited, students have access to over 400 courses and more than 27 degrees.
Vincennes University will connect enrollees to these opportunities by supplying each with netbooks - lightweight, mobile, wireless, but powerful and inexpensive personal computers to support online education and training programs. The Library will play a crucial role as a source for wireless internet access and face-to-face support services for students enrolled in the program.
